Not Just for Show: The Science Behind the Sparkle

Not Just for Show: The Science Behind the Sparkle

Everyone loves the look of a rhinestone-studded garment under the lights. But nobody loves the aftermath: a trail of missing crystals left on the gym bench, the car seat, or the dance floor.

When I started Flaio, the biggest challenge wasn't the design—it was the physics.

Traditional embellished clothing is designed for standing still. It’s "red carpet" wear, meant to be worn for three hours and then hung in a garment bag. But Flaio is built on the philosophy of Sparkle Meets Strength. I wanted to create pieces that could handle a deep squat, a long run, or a sweaty night out without shedding their soul.

The "Crystal Connoisseur" Standard
In the Flaio studio, we don't just glue things on and hope for the best. Over the last year, I have refined a proprietary application method that allows the adhesive to bond deeply with the technical fibers of performance fabric without killing the stretch.

Most manufacturers use rigid glues that crack when the fabric expands. At Flaio, we use a flexible bonding agent that moves with you. This means the garment retains its compression and elasticity, and the stones stay exactly where they were placed.

Why AB Stones?
You might notice our crystals hit different. That’s because we exclusively use Aurora Borealis (AB) coated stones. Unlike standard clear glass, AB stones have an iridescent coating that diffracts light into a spectral rainbow. They don't just reflect white light; they pull blues, golds, and pinks from the environment, ensuring that your outfit looks different from every angle.

Flaio isn't just about looking good in a photo; it’s about durable, wearable art that survives the wash and the workout.
